what should my nitrates be right now they are at 25 ppm i just took the 2 damsels out and i still have the sleeper gobie in there with a coral banded shrimp
Hi, Brandon. Nitrates are high at 25ppm. Although not particularly toxic, Nitrates in the range you mention suggest inadequate export of nutrients/wastes. You should figure out why Nitrates are high and make corrections soon.
You did not mention what your tank setup consist of, but I would say you are using wet/dry filtration. I had high nitrates until I got rid of that form of filtration. I now use live rock, deep sand bed, and a sump with protein skimmer.
As far as taking fish out, you took out the hardiest fish first. The goby and shrimp would be harmed by the nitrates than the damsels.
Not everyone that has a wet/dry has high nitrates, just those people who do not know how to use them. There are plenty of us who have them and our tanks are running great.
i agre with Fishaholic that when using a wet/dry corectaly you shouldnt have high nitrates. also i havents seen any one kill a coral because of having nitrates at 25ppm. usualy when thay start geting around that number you shart geting thinks like hair alge
