Anyone who can help, My Green Hammer which I have had for about 2 weeks, and was progressively getting happier, has started to die off at one corner of the skeleton. It looks to be about a 3/4 inch piece. The Tissue (polyps) started to ooze a white milky fluid earlier today, and now that portion is dead and falling off of the skeleton. The rest looks very healthy and happy. Will it likely stop there? Is this normal behavior? I aclimated this just as I did my other Hammer, and all my other Corals. I checked and all water params are normal. Any Ideas?

Link,
I just lost my beautiful 8" hammer to the same disease. I found no one on a couple of boards that could help. It took about 5 weeks to totally die. If you can think of a drastic measure to take to stop the progress of the infection, take it. I had my hammer for almost 2 years

I hope you get some expert advice, if it were me, I would likely do an iodine dip.

I had a torch fall into another coral, and it was oozing, I immediately dipped it in a very dilute lugols solution, and the effect was almost instantaneous.

As I say, I am not an expert so this is only a suggestion you may want to research.

Link,
My hammer just recently was stung by another LPS. I had tiisue damage and it was receding more each day. I did not have the white oozing that you describe which leads me to believe that your problem was caused by something else. I cut the affected portion away to remove all dead tissue and some healthy tissue to make sure I got it all. It has been three weeks and it is recovering nicely. It opens pretty well although not fully like before, but most importantly, there is no dead tissue and it looks healthy. It inflates at the base where it was cut and is slowly covering the affected area. I feel sure that if I would not have done this I would have slowly lost the entire coral. HTH

is there a way to tell if a hammer is regrowing in its skeleton? i got one in december but it came half empty in its skeleton.. im thinking it lost a couple heads while in the lfs. Since ive put it in my tank, its been healthy and ive been feeding it regularly. Will it eventually fill up the skeleton?
