While I don't think they are complete crap, they do require frequent cleaning. When they work, they work as advertised and create a nice random current in the tank.
I beleive they are over-rated though, and don't produce the same output as a similarly rated Maxijet (of which I also have two).
Hi, I tried the 212, returned it to the LFS the next day, and did not try the 214. 212 was so weak I feared I would have had to returned the 214 also for same reason. Again like the people at the LFS said, it could just have been the one I purchased that was defective. It sure would have been a really good idea if it would have been a little stronger. They only carry the 212 and the 214.
I tried the 212 and i crapped out on the second week. I would not recommend this powerhead to anyone. save yourself the money of replacing it and buy a good powerhead like a maxi jet or a hagen and maybe even use a wavemaster. The powersweep is a good idea but it is not constructed well, very cheap.
