my firefish disappeared today...so heres the deal i feed the fish this morning and saw the fish, come home from school and the fish is GONE...whats the dealio...i looked under my rocks, and my barnacle, i looked under my sand dollars, i looked everywhere, i looked on the floor...so heres what i have in my tank...baby yellow tang, and 2 maroon clownfish, had mandarin but gave to a friend who has enough live rock,(until i get some) i got some scarlett crabs, blue leg crabs, and some astrea snails, and a condy anemone, and two emerald crabs, and two brittle starfish, not the green fish eating kind, so anyway what do u think happened to my fish could it be deep inside one of my live rocks?????

heres another question, has anyone seen an condy have babies, cuz i two where the condy use to rest, they look like little polyps, tan...see through, with purple tips, like the condy..

so express yo self.....

The same thing happened to me the other day. I lost the second one, and it may be for good. They are spooked way too easily. The only thing different is I added a very small skunk cleaner shrimp, and the firefish disappeared under a rock and hasn't came out since.

I've noticed that they like to go incognito too. Mine spend about half the day out and the other half hidden away in the rock. Give him a couple days and if you don't see him then you might want to change his status from MIA to KIA.

My firefish is very good at hiding inside small holes in live rock. I recently moved my reef from one tank to another and never saw the firefish during the move. Two days later there he was in the new tank like magic. I wouldnt be too concerned at this point. Give it a few days. If you still dont find him, I would probably blame it on the brittle stars or the condy but do not think that either would be capable of catching your firefish if he is even half as fast and agile as mine seem to be.

Mine is in a 12 gal- he eats- then hides a lot- maybe not comifn out for several hours at a time- other days he is out all day- he very well might just be MIA not KIA. Have you had any problems feeding ? Good luck.

Wait a day or two.... Once mine disappeared for a full day... at least 24hours and then the next day he was back in front of his rock like normal.... they're really good at hiding so even if you lifted all of the rocks he could still be there. Good luck!

Maybe your Tang is making it nervous? I say this because I recently experienced this with my Purple Firefish. I added a baby Yellow Tang to the tank and my Firefish would not come out of his hole for 2.5 weeks

(Although I did see him peeking out and eating

).The Firefish was there first...so I took the tank apart, removed the Tang to the FOWLR...the Firefish was out before the dust cleared

I guess I'm saying be patient and keep looking around for him...check for Ammonia if you don't see it for a week just in case.
...Did you check the overflow?
