By far not the best of images, but, I would appreciate it if anyone could help me identify the larger of the two fish in this image:
two-wrasses.jpg

The smaller is a P. filamentosus or carpenteri... I had assumed the larger was a female of the same species, but that I am doubting now. I believe it is a 'fairy' wrasse of some sort...

Thanks!

I'm not possitive, but I think it's known as a red filament Wrasse.
Check out Flying Fish Express, they have a few pics.
Here's why I came up with this:

There are actually 2 problems that I can see with the ID of a filament/flasher wrasse. If you look at the topmost picture, the larger fish (I know the second is P filamentosus)... Its head is more overtly rounded and the forehead is higher. Whats more telling to me is the tail. It is 'lyre' style in the flasher, but this fish has a well rounded convex style tail.

Any other thoughts?

Try looking up Paracheilinus octotaenia on http://www.fishbase.org . The picture displayed is of a "flashing" male... with a rounded caudal fin. You can also try this link http://richardfield.freeservers.com/newdir/wrasses.htm - scroll down to the bottom.
I have kept this species before and I am almost sure that is what you have. Perhaps the genus classification needs to be re-worked because the fish seems to share more traits with Cirrilabrus wrasses than Paracheilinus. Hope this helps.
