I have a cbs that was donated by a friend. It was about the size of a 50¢ piece now its huge I couldnt tell you how many times it has molted. I would guess his antenna span is about a foot across. He has been good to all the corals and seems to get along with the fish sometimes the fish back into him and he looks like he is cleaning the fish.... Maybe he is confused and thinks he is a cleaner shrimp.

He is not shy and comes out day or night mostly at night of course.

All in all I would not necessarily go out and buy one for my reef but since it was donated I am glad to have it and it would be missed if it were gone.

I bought two coral banded shrimps that were displayed in different tanks at the LFS. I was careful to select one to be smaller than the other (like 80% of the size of the larger). They actually paired up in my tank and have spawned. The larger one have lots of egss under her body.

I actually did this twice. The first time was in 1996. That pair survived until last year when they were killed by crabs (hitch-hikers from the live rocks that have grown from pea size to about 1.5 inch). After tearing down my tank (my wife wanted to replace the carpet and I was forced to move the tank) and removing the crabs, I purchased two more CBS about three months ago. The second pair have spawned three times now.

If I remember correctly, both times, the larger shrimp is female.

Did I get lucky both times or is there something to these shrimps?

They come out of their cave only at night (dark room). They are neat to watch. When I put my face right up to the glass and be real still, they would come right up and try to feel me with their antenae.

I lost some fire fishes before but not sure if the CBS or the crabs were responsible.

Liem.
