I'm now in the planning stages of my 75 gal. reef - and will be forced to remain in that stage until our condo is completed. So far sitting in the basement I have a 75 gallon All-Glass reef-ready and an Aqualine Buschke Aquastar 2x250watt hqi system. Step #3 is the main pump. What pump and flow rate would you suggest considering the tank utilizes an All-Glass reef kit? Thanks for your help!

i would recommend a quiet one and 3/4" sea swirl just b/c all of this will perfectly fit the 3/4" return and provide decent flow
i would then add one powerhead to the opposite corner

i like the marineland 1140s(300gph) b/c they are jet black and if you have a black background, they are practically invisible..aim the outflow to the front center and it will provide a nice random current w/the sea-swirl

if you don't have a black background, you can use 2 cans of $1 gloss black spray paint to cover the back of a 75

so, for $250 you could get all of the above

just my .02

I don't know what capacity the overflow kit has, but I would shoot for a pump that delivers more GPH at the specific head of your tank to account for it slowing with time, and also to allow you to stem the output and connect it to your skimmers etc. You could even skip the power head then and just have a couple of different outputs in the tank. If you add the sea swirl (never used one of these before, and not sure exactly which one it is - 360 constant rotation or the 90 back and forth movement or something else) you can create your wave effect. I use a wavemaker myself, but if I could get rid of the powerheads for current, I would, and would just point them at certain corals instead.
