Is there such a thing as too much light? I want to get mh lighting for my 55, but I can't decide what wattage bulbs. I also don't want to supplement with actinics, so I'd like to get something 10,000k or higher. I want a wide range of corals so I need to have enough for sps and clams, but I get the impression too much light can be harmful to softies? Is this true? Any experience with this? Also where are some good prices? I've checked reeffanatic and premiumaquatics and they both have great prices, just wondering if there were some other places out there that had comparable or better prices. thanks in advance for the help.

I would go with 2X250 watters. That way you could always move to a bigger tank and you would regret goin with 2X175. If you want softies like mushrooms make sure you have LOTS of ledges to put them under. The bigger lights are necessary for the hard corals, sps and clams with this much light. If you already have lots of corals I would SLOWLY build up the time when you get your new lights to acclimate them. If you can suspend the lights instead of build them into a enclosed canopy it will help with the heat. Make sure you get 2 fans for these

Troy,

Thanks! Were you the one that set me strait on the neon dottyback after I posted pics????? I still tell that story!!! The dottyback is doing fine and hasent bothered a sole!!!! (No there is not a sole in the tank!!) He/She does however square off with the sixline every now and then but they dont ever even lay a fin on each other!!

Harrison, it's the above quote that I question. I think a photo gets my point across better. Im sorry if you felt "intimidated" by this response.

Glad to hear everything is doing well, they are a really beautiful fish. I don't know if I posted when you got it or not but I do have Scott Michael's Marine Fishes and he mentions something about it disemboweling fish of its own size and even larger. Sounded kind of messy

. Why are the really beautiful ones always such a pain in the asterix?

When I posted a pic of it on my pic site, someone saw it labled as a pacific cleaner wrasse and sent me an email with a correction that it was in fact a neon dottyback!!!!!!!! What a deal!!!

You know, I just heard about these guys and their disembowling trick, the other day!!!! Havent seen it yet. Hope I dont!!!!!!
