Anyone have any experience with black tubastrea? I did a search and there weren't too many listings for it. I bought a large piece of branching black tubastrea today, and the only thing I know about it is it's non-photosynthetic and likes low current and is pretty much nocturnal until trained to come out during the day. Question is, will it tolerate being exposed to the light? The piece I got is rather large and doesn't fit into the shadowy area where I thought it would without some aquascaping, which I'm not prepared to do. Also, can I break it up into smaller chunks or will this injure the tissue? I noticed that where I grabbed it, it more or less got discolored. I left it in the store for a few days and the polyps were starting to flesh out, so I bought it today. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Davelin.

A friend has a black tubastrea too! I'm green of envy

( I have a orange one), you have to feed it daily or at least every other day with brine shrimp otherwise it will die sooner or later. you can take frags, you can even take only one polyp out but be careful. My tubestria was only one cracked polyp when I got it ! , now it has some polyps and it's fat and happy.

If you take some frags one day; let me know and I could go and buy one from you

I've heard that they are pretty hardy and it's the only one coral in the sea who survives close to atomic test areas :0 (that's what my friend told me)

Good luck.
