Is that the poor little Mimic Tang on the lower right of the bottom picture?

No, that was a big fiji yellow leather. The tang actually made it about 12 feet away from the tank.

I may have to take these pics down- not sure if I can look at it much longer...

Wow, Dan. That's awful. I don't even know what to say. It looks like you were extremely lucky that your whole house didn't...Jeez.

Dan, I am very sorry for you loss. I am also very glad to hear that you ARE using a GFCI on your new tank.

Also, a note for everyone. I work with electricity every day, and it is not someting you want to F^(* with. Here are some safety tips that are common sense to me, but may help someone else out.

First of all. Let the pro's do the important stuff. Get a Qualified electrician to do the work. IF you have the training, go ahead. Just be careful.

Please use a GFCI whenever water could even come close to the outlet. I have been saved by more than a few tripped gfci's

Please make sure your wiring is above all water levels. And try to have your plugs and your water in different enclosures. Make a separate box for you outlets if possible.

Check your powerstrips. Most of the ones you can buy do not have breakers on them. This usually happens with the cheap ones, but I have spent good money for strips that (I found out later) had no breaker.

I hope these tips help someone out. If anyone has anymore to add, please do so.

B

Not only does that suck, it is spooky. The only other thing I could recommend is that you retain your old live rock to use as base rock. Also you could bust up your old stoney coral skeletons to be used as rubble and base rock. I feel sorry for you.

This is a vintage thread - circa 2001 (check the dates).

The recent fire thread reminded me of it, so I bumped it up.
