I recently picked up some frags from a fellow reefer and put them high in the water column under 192 watts of pc light. Even though I have heard that this is not enough light they seem to be doing fine. I am dosing with B-ionic and soon will start dripping kalk. What other corals (easy) could I add to compliment the xenias?????

Believe it or not it is a 120 gallon. The placement seems to be the key. They are all appearing to be doing fine after a few weeks. The tank is also 30 inches deep. The pc's are one 10000k and one 7100k. Am I pushing the envelope too hard here???

I've got 3 x 55 W on a 20gal growing a derasa clam, several species of acropora, montipora, hydnopora, finger and toadsstoal leathers, pavona, galaxia, and others. Everything is growing, probably not as fast as the would under brighter MH lights. The fastest grower is probably the montipora (great coral for a beginner) grows about an inch a month and the clam which has taken on 6 cm of shell in a year and a half. the bottle brush acropora grows about an inch every six months, the pavona and the hydnopora grow perhaps a little faster than the acropora.

Mnonet:

Good to here you have had success with SPS. I was thinking of starting with a montipora when the tank gets a little older.

Mnonet, are you getting good coloration on the SPS? What kind of lamps do you have? I am encouraged by your success because I also have 3 x 55 watt (but over a 15 gallon tank instead of your 20).

What size tank is this? I had a 3x96 pc on my old 55 gal and kept Xenia and had it spread. Even the pieces that dropped off and fell to the bottom grew and I would rubber band them to a small piece of rock and move them back to the top.

Camel I also has 192 watts of PC. They are on 30 gallon. My xenias are growing like weeds. I also have a frogspawn, mushroom leather, and a condy anemonee that are all doing fine and growing. I have a green favites moon that is not doing so well. I tried using Kick Ick and I don't think the moon liked it. I am curious to here if anyone is having success with SPS with PC's

I have 4 X 96 Watt PC's over my 75G and my Xenia is spreading very happily. I also keep a Frogspawn, Pink Colt, Yellow Polyps, Green Star Polyps, Mushrooms, and a Purple Gorgonian. I do know people who have successfully kept SPS under PC's. It is just a matter of placement in the tank.

Camel shrimp,

I have similar lighting as yours. Mine is a 90G, two 96W PC's (10K & 6700) and two 55W actinic.

My tanks is close to 6 months old, and I just started the first SPS, which is a green Montipora Digitate.

I have a colt, Xenis, green polyps and few mushrooms. They all seem doing fine.

I was told that the polyps of the SPS only come out during the night time to catch food. Is this true? If yes, where comes the bright coloration of SPS corals and why they need all this strong lighting? I hope someone can clarify my confusion. Thanks!
