Hi there,

The other evening I had a flash light to the aquarium and noticed a long silk like sweeper coming from one of the tips of the cabbage coral
heads. This silk like sweeper was very fine with very short fine arms branching from it. It would immediately retract once it was touched.

Looking close it seemed as if it was some sort of white worm sitting on the tip of the coral. A friend mentioned it may be a snail (verminent
snail?).

Has anyone ever seen this. Is it in fact a worm or is it the coral itself?

Does this actually sting the other soft corals?

thanks for your help

This sounds exactly like my Toadstool Leather! I have watched it at night a lot. The lfs thought I was crazy when I told him about it! My leather has four different areas on him and they can reach up to about 9" or so. I have often wondered if they are feeding or a defense? Safety wise I keep him on bottom out of reach from hard corals. He has touched a feather duster and fish which had no reaction at all to the swaying tenticles. (They are just underneath the top edge). Make Sense?!

I had them do that before too. I always assumed it was a feeding apparatus.
