Hi John,
Closest thing I can find in my Baensch is an "unknown mud crab"; probably Liomera sp. "Mud crabs are identified by the dark brown to black tips on their claws." They are common on coral reefs and are usually 2-5cm. Baensch, Vol. I; p. 650.
They are omnivorous and invertebrates and bottom-dwelling fish are at risk.

Pretty crab, though.

I apologize in advance for leaving the sump:

Looks to be the infamous fishnet stocking crab, often found on street corners, and in seedy bars, as a hitchiker on the north american HO (can I say that chucker ?)

actually it looks like a very small version of what is known as a fiddler crab but the above post is probably far more accurate although alot less entertaining

I apologize again I really couldn't help myself with that pic

Look like you lost a bit of your typing and spelling ability as well......

. It's good to hear you are feeling better now.

I would take the crab back to the LFS/CFO. You will never know, somebody may think it's cute and want to take it home......

Ernie, after hearing that story, I think i will just continue to snore
icon_eek.gif
. Glad to hear your getting better.

I have found that crabs with pointed (sharp) claws like that are not to be trusted around other animals.

Snoring was the only reason to remove your tonsils?!?

Don't know if I like that much.

Actually in my case it was to prevent getting sick w/ throat problems (strep included) 3 to 5 times a year. It was a classic case of the cure being worse than the disease.

Snoring is a top reason to remove tonsils however.

I feel bad about hijacking this thread. Cool looking crab!

Dick,

I don't know if I mentioned this or not but i went back in for emergency surgery on Tuesday of last week and they decided to keep me an extra day. That makes a grand total of 4 trips to the hospital (3 to the ER) and 3 surgeries w/ general anesthetic. Don't ever let anyone talk you into getting your tonsils out, no matter how bad you snore! The biggest cause for pain, strangely enough, is where I bit my tongue when I was out. Apparently the surgeon wasn't paying attention. I have lost 22 lbs because it is to painful to eat.

Today I am talking again and I ate some corned-beef hash w/ eggs, so I am feeling much better. Thanks for asking, and sorry about the long, whining response.

----

Back to the crab, very few crabs can be trusted IMO to not take a bite out of corals or to go after fish. I would basish the poor guy to the sump or find someone w/ a FOWLR that might want him. Your LFS may give you credit for him.

Ernie
