I have a frehwater test kit, and was wondering if it would work on saltwater.
Will it?
Thanks

retry.
The situation:
One of the girls, while doing an experiment for class, tried using my salt water test kit to adjust her water, as needed. She had left her test kit for fresh water in the car and didn't want to go get it.
The results:
She started getting inconsistent data after this point, resulting in the need to start the experiment over. Luckily, she asked someone before it was a huge disaster. She did get a lecture from one of the Assistant Profs. After that, I put a note on the box to ask me for permission before using.

Huh? Quillen?

It's either I am dumb, or English REALLY IS my second language, I simply don't get what you were trying to convey. Are you missing a couple words or misspelled few words here and there?

Not sure i understand that either...

Most likely your kit is a medium to low range kit, just look at the color chart, does it go up to 8.4? You can use high range pH kits that are used for ciclids but there are soooo many better pH kits that that, you want precision!

Basically, what I was trying to say is:
At SMS, those who don't use the right testkit have big problems as a result.

Quillen, I understood what you were trying to say about the inconsitancy.

Monkeyboy. The test kit I have is for my brackish tank. But it says freshwater. It is also a high range ph test. 7.4-8.8 When I tested it my ph was between 8.0 and 8.2. SO I was wondering about the acuracy.

I don't think there is much precision with the kit I have. the band on the little test tube is about 1/8" wide. It says that as long as the water level is in the band, you wil get an accurate reading. The tube is a 5mL. so 1/8"m up or down is quite a bit.

not to worry, I will not be getting my LR untill my next paycheck, and my real test kits should be here today.

I've actually done testing on this. A high range freshwater pH kit will work! I get the same reading from that and a Salifert Saltwater kit. So now I just buy the cheap pH kits cause they do the same thing. 8.3 is 8.3 fresh or salt. Alk is where the difference is.
