I had read a previous thread about Mr Weiss and the different opinions about him and his products. One suggestion made by someone was that Coral Vite (Vital??) is worthless. One of the kids down at the LFS suggested that I use it. Is this true?? Is Coral Vital a good thing or just another scam??
I have done a lot of reading and have taken a lot of notes, (printed out many threads). The opinions expressed on this site have given me insight into better ways of maintaining my tank. I am looking forward to learning a lot and asking many questions along the way.
Thank you ahead of time for any suggesstions!!

from what I have read here, coral vital is a waste of money but I might be wrong I have never used it before.

My personal opinion, and the opinion of many successful reefers is that I would not add anything to my tank that I don't know what it is or that I can't measure with a test kit or monitor. Last time I checked, they still hadn't come out with a Coral Vital monitor, and since Mr. Weiss refuses to list the ingredients, I would never even consider pouring it into my tank.

invalid,

It may well help coral growth. But, only because it is a food and you can get the same results with much cheaper methods. I raise xenia, star polyps, zoanthids and a few other soft corals to sell to my LFS. I feed very heavily and get great growth. If it helped your poylps, I suggest you are underfeeding. How and what do you feed your coral?

I think I may thinking of a different thing. Mine is a Calcium and Iodine supplement. It lists the ingredients. What is it that you guys are talking about?

I'm trying this stuff so I'll report my findings. I would not normally purchase something but the owner of the LFS who has some very nice reef tanks recommended it - so it it turns out to be ****e, then there goes his credibility.

I agree with a few things that people have said on this issue:

1. The product's ingredients are not listed; nobody knows what's in the stuff, and that's REAL BAD.

2. The product's packaging is misleading. I bought it in a big, plastic jar, only to find a tiny ziplok baggie of powder inside.

3. Most people with brains are somewhat put off by the sensationalized and ambiguous marketing propoganda spewed forth, for example: "The missing Link! Revolutionary marine biocatalyst!"

Here's a link to an article with a complete chemical/nutritional analysis of Coral+Vital:

I tried it for a couple of months and honestly I didn't really notice a difference in any coral. I'm currently using Reef Solutions from Ecosystems for alittle over a month now and the verdict is still out. Has anybody used this product?

This has been hashed and rehashed I think but I will add my two cents in...

I personally would not provide one single cent of income to someone who so obviously uses misinformation in the name of psuedo-science to take people's money.

Even if a product had merit, I would skip it just on principle because of the questionable marketing practices exhibited by that company.

just my opinion

That's probably "Coral-Vite" which is a trace element supplements from Kent Marine. Totally different stuff.

Not sure which one came out first, but its an unfortunate name for Kent, as we've seen people confuse it with Coral-Vital before.

I personally think it is in bad taste to "bash" anyone in a post. I can say that I tried the Coral Vital and didn't really notice much of a change. My coraline grows pretty well without it so I didn't see "amazing" results, but maybe if someones tank isn't set up right or they are not feeding right it may be of help...But for me caca

Buy good stuff like B-ionic or lugols...uh oh, another controversy

If you try M.W. Coral Vital, smell the bottle...

That said, if you are still game...I will not say it might not be good for corals, just don't have any fish in there...

Well, maybe, if you do, or do not, check things like pH, something I suspect, didn't do, as the bottle did not say it was pH altering. Dosed two tanks, two tanks - all sick fish. In retrospect, I thought they all got ick, but I think it was a drastic pH. Guessing.

I'd never touch it. As I say, smell it.

Hey, thank you, all of you for responding. It sounds to me like this stuff is just another hoax that is being pushed by the LFS. I'd rather waste my money on something else.

Ciao!
