Please e-mail me if you are in the Knoxville area and would like to get together regularly to trade frags.

I have one other person that I know is willing. I was at the LFS called "Aquarium" (strangely enough it is not "The Aquarium" but just "Aquarium" which makes it very hard to look up the phone number on-line, BTW) and there were tons of people there buying reef paraphenalia, so I know there are more of us out there than has responded in the past. I am afraid to ask them to post a sign in the LFS, since every time I have mentioned any on-line discussion groups I have recieved a thorough scolding.

Anyway, I am much nice in person than over the internet, and would love to trade some frags.

Please let me know if you are interested or if you have any good ideas on how to interest more people.

Well, mentioning anything on-line is uncool there, and I was told that "you have to be careful on the internet because those people really don't know what they are talking about."

This is from the most knowlegeable person in the shop, who is doing some propogation, knows most the scientific names of almost all the livestock but who is a big fan of wet-dry filters.

I just don't think that they would be keen on the idea of a club to trade frags.

Yea I can understand the point here. The other point about people on the internet not knowing much, you suppose they have been reading danmhippos posts?

Hey Ernie,
I hope you can get this started up, as we've discussed before.
I've discussed beginning a reef club with Randall at Aquatic Specialists in N. Knoxvile several times. He is interested and willing to even host a get together to kick things off.

He & I both have been so covered up with other things that we've not been able to do it. He does have a list of at least a dozen reefers whom he thinks would be interested.

Aquatic Specialists seems to have a different attitude toward the internet and sand beds than Aquarium. I suppose this is the John Tullock heritage from when he owned the store. http://www.aquatic-specialists.com/

Aquarium is a nice store, though I haven't been to their new location yet, and A.S. is much more convenient for me to get to from Sevierville.

Hope this comes together.

Dick,

Didn't realize you were so close!

Randall is a really nice guy, and I like going to his store, mostly just to BS w/ him. We have similar interests outside reefing as well. I would love to see his store do better as well. I will bring it up w/ him this week.

The other LFS has good selection but is much more commercialized. Only reason I even mention it is the traffic that they get and the number of "latent" reefers in the Knoxville area.

Thanks,

E

I am a regular at Aquarium and regularly bounce ideas off of them that I read from the internet. The guy that I deal with there (the same one I think you are talking about) actually said he does read reefs.org, reefcentral, etc. His opinion, that he stated to me, is that there is a lot of good info as well as bad, and he gets skittish with some of the more unconventional methods that may be on the internet. He said that one time he actually read about someone injecting barbecue sauce to kill aiptaisia!

Anyway, I'd be really interested, and have actually spoken with FishDaddy (via e-mail) a couple times about this. Unfortunately I will be short on frags to trade for a while, as I am just getting the reef started.

I'm in the West Knoxville/Farragut area, and my e-mail is [email protected]

I've also heard that little diddy about not trusting any reef advice over the web.

Hey Dave,
How are you? I hope we can get a group together even without frags.

As for the BBQ sauce, I hadn't heard that one, but it might just really work!

The prime ingredient in Tropic-Marin's Stop Aiptasia seems to be hot Jalapeno peppers!!!

Of course, I'm not going to be the one to either try or recommend a shot of BBQ sauce, but it might not be so far fetched.

Hey Dick! I'm good, glad to talk to you again. I got your e-mail awhile back about this very subject, but then baby #3 was born and I have had very little time to be on the boards, much less check and send e-mail regularly (just wanted you to know I wasn't ignoring you!).

My brother-in-law and father-in-law are both reefers, and I have 2 other friends that might be interested, so I would guess we should be able to get a pretty good group together!

Has anyone ever talked to Ralph, the owner of Aquarium? I have had one long discussion with him, and boy does he know his stuff. I almost think he might want to be involved in a reef club, but I don't know him well enough. Anyone else know him?

Hope we're able to get something going here!

Bump!

I will add all your e-mails to a list and let you know. The first meeting will probably be rather informal. Let me know if you have any good ideas as to the content of the meetings. Right now I am thinking burgers on the grill and frag swap. Down the road maybe we can get some guest speakers.

Let me know what you think.
