I went to all kinds of stores and asked if they had pickeling lime and nobody even knew what the hell I was talking about. I went to big grocery stores, home depot, hardware store ect. where do u get this stuff from?
What is wrong with builders lime. Here in oz I have been using it for 2 years, no probs.
$8 AUD for 20 kgs. Roughly $4 US for 40 pounds.
Food grade is 98% pure, builders grade is 96%.
Again, I have had no probs.

I don't think just using white vineger will do anything. You use the pickling lime in place of the kalk. The white viniger is just used to increase the calciums solubility in the water.

I meant to use the white vinegar to disslove the Kalk and then add R/O water or tank water. I was just re-stating what BReefCase had said in an earlier thread. I figured if pickling lime was too hard to fine, then Tim could use vinegar to disolve the Kalk. Thought it seems as thought you may be suggesting replacing the Kalk with piclking lime?? What is the recipe for that??
Exactly what 31-2c said. Kalk for aquariums is ... well last time i bought it was 20 dollars for a pound. I believe the pickling lime i got was 2.50 a pound. Same thing, except the marine stuff is supposed to be examined and declared safe for the aquarium. I've been using pickling lime for kalkwaser for almost 2 month now... works great IMO

Sood luck

BTW the same dosing rules apply.

Thank you for clarifying that officer 31-2c. Maybe when I start running low on Kalk I can start to look for pickling lime. Shows I am new to this whole thing and I am learning as I go.
