probably baby brittle stars. I have had them before too. they were about 1-2 mm across, and some of them eventually grew a bit. I am sure some of them lived and are still growing somewhere in my rocks, but most of them dissapeard.

Yes they do look like baby brittle stars but the smallest I have seen at my LFS are about 1/2-1 inch in size. These are much smaller.

this is an agronite sandbed which I seeded with live sand from an established tank. And I have heard many people here say the white sand sifter star would decimate my sand bed so i really didnt expect to find these.

I guess since they arent bothering anything Ill just consider them a bonus

ok you know them itty bitty teeny weeny white bugs you get in your reef ?

well it seems like I got itty bitty teeny weeny white bugs with legs in mine.

Honest to God they look like little starfish but are no bigger than them little white bugs I sometimes find on my glass when the lights are out.

I mean I have the little shrimp like pods, the little white bugs, speghetti worms in my rock, but I have never seen these before. I do have a red linka and a white sand sifting star in the tank, but these are tiny

I have seen the ministars that are about an inch across but these ones are more like 1/8 inch what are they ?

Those little baby stars are available from ISPF, usually you would have to pay good money for them. In my case i just syphoned a bunch out of my LFS reef system, i recon there too small for anyone to miss.

Apparently they are excellent detrevores, but as far as i know they dont grow into full size serpents, but im not 100% on that.

I moved my tank yesturday to my new place and found the same thing.. I do have a big brittle star.. about a foot from end to end. Pulled out my live rock and attached were about 20 or so of these little white stars.. thought my brittle had babies.

The little white brittles are Amphipholis squamata, and they are full grown even at the tiny sizes. They are brooders, so, since they are so tiny as adults, you can imagine the size of the babies that crawl out of 'em! They are very common in DSB communities, and will reproduce like crazy (unlike large brittles/serpent stars). Some hitch-hiker stars, like those with banded arms, will grow larger (but not generally to the size of the large brittle/serpents).

I don't have any brittle starfish nor any other starfish, yet I discovered these in my sump! What's their name? Are these the kind that never grow to become large like serpent stars? They ranged in size from a few mm (as seen in the photos) to about 3cm (just over an inch).
