Added two tank raised O. Clowns to my 1 1/2 month old reef and one of them is covered in white spots. Can white spots be stress or are they always considered ich? Other clown and damsels are doing fine. All water parameters are good, just did a water change as a matter of fact. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 0, ph 8.3, salinity 1.024, calcium 400.

thank you

White spots are not always ich. Several organisms can cause this condition. Also, sometimes it's just sand in the slime coat.

Having said that, you might want to quarantine your new arrivals next time.

couldn't agree more with the quaratine tank

just had an outbreak on a small perc moved him to my prop tank and moved the corals to the main was able to medicate without any ill side effects and ick is gone.

Best part is put nothing in my reef. 5 1/2 gallon tank $8 best $8 I ever spent. a few more days and back to the reef he goes

I had a brown damsel with white spots mainly in the head area. My LFS said that it was probably "micro bubbles" in the slime coat. Since no other fish presented this, I just kept a close watch to make sure they did not get worse.

They didn't and in time faded away...

Hope is something simple...

Comming from the Freshwater hobby.. I can't agree more with the Quarantine statement. One time I added some neon tetras to that tank without quarantine.. enough to tell you that they brought ich into the tank and that killed several guppies, only 3 neons survived.. and the worst, it killed my clown botias which were my favorites

ich is not the only thing that can cause white spots but it by far the most common cause.
