Got my new hood/lights but bummed out...

Today I recieved my new vho/mh hood from HelloLights...pulled it all out...put it all together...got all the wires connected...fired it up to test...mh comes on...S L O W L Y...which is good I supposed, but the VHO's never fire up...so thinking it might be the bulbs I pull them and replace them with 2 spare VHO's I have lying around...nothing...it appears the ballast is shot.

So I mount it anyways to see what the MH's alone do for my tank (a 125 Gal that has just had 2 VHO's running on it, with lots of softies but no hard corals)WOW what difference. Nice CRISP blue/white light...but I am still bummed about the VHO's not working...I have a call into hellolights and am waiting for their repsonse. But it looks very nice... at least that's a plus!

Bummer man.. It really sucks when something that you mail order comes in wrong. After all the wait and anticipation that you spent your good money on. Hope they rectify the problem for you.

I just added MH/VHO to my tank after a year and a half with just VHO's. What a difference. I love it.

Careful with you photo period. I lost a derasa clam, a wellsophillia, and a xenia within a week of the lighting change. (Ok, I'm really not to bummed out over the xenia) I ran the MH for 4 hours the 1st day. No problem everything looked great. Change to 5-1/2 hours the 2nd day and left it that way for a couple of days. Ok, everything looked great. Then I increased it to 7 hours and have left it that way ever since. All the deaths happened by the end of the 1st week through the end of the 2nd week.

I assume this is the cause of the deaths since it was the only change and all water parameters are good. All other critters are excellent.

Howdy,

I have used Hellolights (formally lampsnow.com)for several purchases. I have never had any problems with them. Please keep us updated on how they respond.

Not sure how they are put together but it is not uncommon for wire nuts to not be as secure as a soldered joint. I would at least check to be sure they were all tight connections.

You probably did this already and I will just shut up now
