low down. No need to get rid of everything. Do a search on GARLIC here on reefs and see what comes up.

You may be supprised.

do you still have one of your smaller tanks? If so, set it up immediately, get the salinity, temp, ph as close to your 55 as possible. Take the fish out of the 55, treat with copper in smaller tank. If you leave the fish out of the 55 for a few mths, the tank should harbor a very small amount of ich, that healthy fish should be able to resist. Also, think about getting some cleaner shrimps-they help keep ich in check. I wouldn't throw the fish out, try to treat and give them a chance. good luck

Garlic seems to be the new rage in fish treatments. I have never used it but I have heard nothing but raves about it. So it wouldn't hurt to try it. In the past I relied on food soaked in vitamins, cleaner shrimps, and good stable water quality. I've only lost three fish in my 10 years of saltwater fish keeping.

GEE, I wonder why the other fish picked it up so easily...

And I suppose you just flushed the trigger, rather than trying to heal him?

This problem would have been covered in any one of those books that we all recommended to you that you felt you were too smart to need.

No sense telling him to slow down, it's not like he will listen.

Thats just more fish that have given their lives for poor water quality and an ignorant pissant that likes to waste money and aid in the destruction of our hobby.

I think the "good, stable water quality" part is the key. You can keep treating Ick, but IMO, if you don't treat the source of stress, you'll never get rid of it. What are the water parameters in this tank??? It takes a lot, IMO, to make a trigger that ill that fast...and I do hope that he wasn't literally thrown out of the tank...and by no means should you throw all living things out of the tank. There are a lot of treatment options if you get your tank in proper shape (water quality). Even a quick freshwater dip can work miracles in removing many of the Ick spots for a period. If your first inclination is to toss all of your animals rather than treat them, I think you are in the wrong hobby. From the original post on this topic, the trigger did not show signs of Ick when you bought it...it developed the signs in your tank. Something is wrong in that tank. Please don't add any more fish until you figure things out and do some research on what fish to add! Triggers and invertebrates don't usually mix! Heck, putting a trigger in with a clown in a small tank could give the clown major stress (and ultimately result in an Ick outbreak)! People have been trying to get you to slow down for along time, and this is the reason why! Please do some research!!!!!!!!

Threw the trigga where

I hope it was into your smaller system. ICH is just one of those things, everyone gets it. I have allways had a U.V. filter. This at least seems to keep the desease to the infected fish. Try garlic soalked food, and possibly a cleaner shrimp.

I just hope that you acted responsibly in the treatment of that trigger. These animals are not disposable, and chances are that any one of your animals may need some TLC at one point in its life.

Hold tight, am i right in thinking that you have a trigger, a snowflake eel and a clown in a 55. When did you get this Trigger, i suppose you know that if you had suggested such a stock increase on this board you would have been branded a fool and flamed to the ground. Especially seen as you only set the damn thing up about a fortnight ago.

Kirtis, my advice would be to find another hobby, hopefully one that dosen't include anything living (or trying to live).

Maybe an Annaconda would be ok. If it didn't get looked after it would find its own meal, Kurtis.

YOU DON'T JUST THROW A FISH OUT THAT HAS ICH

I hope that you meant you threw it in a different tank, compared to some others ich is very treatable! DON'T KILL THEM INTENTIONALLY, if they're sick and they die in the tank that's one thing, but if you just throw it out because it's got ich you're an idiot. Set up a quarantine pretty quick with filter media from your tank in it to boost up the bacteria levels. Try feeding one of the various garlic products for fish out there by soaking their food in it. You can also use formalin in conjunction with freshwater baths. Good luck and DON'T THROW ANY MORE FISH OUT!

Strong evidence that there is not much between his ears when he clearly saw the fish had ich at LFS and still went ahead and bought the sucker. Stupid is as stupid does. I may be a novice to reef keeping, but something I learned in my 20+ years of keeping fresh water fish is to NEVER by a fish that looks sick, or is in a tank that has dead fish in it. Let the LFS take cost and burden of curing fish. If it dies cost of loss on their hands. Also less stress on fish by leaving at LFS. Nothing worse than moving a sick fish to new tank with new water to adjust to.

I recently had a tang get ich, then my clown got it. I used Ruby reefs Kick Ich and it worked like a charm. Try this. I guess you arnt against animal crulity because thats what throwing out a living fish is.

I think Kirtis is jerking our chain!!! I think he/she is just trying to start a flame for their own enjoyment. I have been looking at his/her post for a while and they seem to contradict each other. I say we lit Kirtis talk to him/herself for a while if you know what I mean.

If Kirtis if for real, from what I have read they should consider a less cerebral hobby. Not that this is rocket science but it takes a little common sense.

Anyone agree with my assessment???

I don't want to flame anyone, but I went and looked up a few of k's old posts. Ecug. is right, either he is jerking us around or he enjoys posting and responding to self. Take his post on friend getting trigger

quote:
Originally posted by kirtis:
He didn't look like that at the petstore and he has had him awhile, but when we got him home he has a little fuzzy white colorations to him , My friend doesn't have a webcamera he will just have to keep a close eye on him , what can he treat his tank with if it is ich , he has a brittle star just like I do , and I think a damsel

It's hard to offer someone advice when they aren't being honest.

Kirtis you want some advice? Then be honest with us.
