Do you know guys why live brine shrimp is kept in the fridge. I've been "surfing" in the net trying to get an answer without any success. Thanks.

Brine shrimp last longer (and can tolerate) in colder waters. I think that when they are kept colder, their metabolism slows down, and therefore, they process what they've eaten slower, and don't burn up their available energy and nutritional value (of which they have very little). The same thing for the eggs, if you freeze them, they will last longer. It's kind of strange, though, that this is the case, because they are generally found, I think, in pretty hot places.

The cold slows down their metabolism it's almost like putting them to sleep.I do this with live bait shrimp when I use them while fishing chill the water down with ice. This way they last a long time.

Colder water means slower metabolism which results in less waste being produced. I believe that what kills them eventuality is poor water quality. I've kept batches alive in the fridge for over a week by doing little partial water changes from my tank when I feed each night.
