I would like to put into some Fiji LS which is said to contain useful organism for 90 gal reef tank with existing 140lb LR and DSB.
Anyway, let me know what kinds of stuff is living in LS?
TIA
Different people have different ideas of what "live sand" means. Sometimes they just mean that it has live bacteria in it. Sometimes they mean that it has been kept in a reef tank and has picked up whatever life was in that tank. I use the term to mean sand that was collected around an actual reef. In that case it would have a representative sampling of whatever organisms occur in the sand around that reef, minus whatever can't survive the collection, shipping and storage. Unfortunately a lot of organisms probably die in that process. But I think it is still most valuable to start with the most biodiverse sand you can get. Notwithstanding the ethics of collection natural material/wild organisms.
Are you going to buy it locally or MO? If MO, I would suggest you buy one of the sand activator/detritivore kits that several companies sell. I bought the live sand activator and wondermud from Indo Pacific Sea Farms www.ipsf.com. They send you a small sample of beneficial organisms = bristle worms, spagetti worms, brittle stars, etc. I think Inland Aquatics has a similar kit. I would also suggest to get a couple of pounds of LS from several LFS or local hobbyists, just for added diversity.
