I just recieved my magnet last week. This is one of the best investments I have made to my reef.I have an acrylic tank and this thing keeps it crystal clear.
The guy who invented the magnavore line used to own a petstore here in the Madison, WI area. While expensive, these magnets are arguably well worth the investment, esp if you're tired of scraping glass with a credit card (like myself) every couple of days.
I bought the Magnavore X. The biggest one they make.
that sucker is strong. I have 1 inch acrylic and it is a work out to use it. I probably should have used the VIII but wanted to be able to use it on the back and top which is 1.25 inches thick.
Works awsome and no scraping needed. Also it won't come off even with vigorous movement which is very important when your tank is built in to the wall with no front access.
Very High quality. Don't think cleaning my 580 would be fun with out it.
Not magnavore, but I got the Algae free Floating 4x2s. I love these floating types that you can turn around corners without having to reach in or having strings attached. The sucker is so strong that I am using it on my 150G with 3/4" glass panels.
You have got to be very careful with any of these ultra strong magnets. It's is rather unpleasant to get a fold of skin from a finger caught between them as they snap together.
This happened to me once in the store just as the salesperson was saying "be careful not to get your fingers caught". I was incapable of speach as I studied my predicament - it hurt in a very intense sort of way...
Hey wrasse,
I us two "Great white" magnets made by Algae free.
They work great on my 1.1" glass panels and are extremely well made. They also cost $125 a piece instead of the $299 for the magnavore-10.
So I got two of them (I have two viewing panels)for less than the price of one magnavore.
