I have a maroone clown that i have had in the tank since its inception almost 8 months ago. I have a sunflower coral, which all the sudden the clown likes to hangout in it, whenever the clown goes in the sunflower , it gets spooked and hides. The clown will not leave it alone, what should i do, i know clowns like to have anemones but i dont want to put one in my tank, what else can be done.

Try a large leather.

I think your best bet would be an anemone.

Its either an anemone or you risk losing the sunflower.

When you refer to your "sunflower" coral do you mean a Goniopora? If that's the case your clown will aggravate it to death. Even if you have an anemone, the clown will choose the coral over it's natural host. I don't know why this happens, but it's a mistake I made when I was new to the hobby. Even without the clown aggravating it, Goniopora have a poor survival rate in captivity.

I would try adding a sarcophyton to see if he takes to that. I have an A. Ocellaris and he has taken it as a host for the most part. Wherever I move the leather he follows. Hangs out around it like it is an umbrella...

I am trying to avaid an anemone as well. Let me know how you do...
