I'm just curious how many corals everyone keeps in their various tanks and how the number of inhabitants relates to the size and shape of the tanks. Thanks.

I am not sure where will this thread lead to. Frankly, how much critters can be kept has to do with maturity of the tank. Moreover, it is hard for us to tell you how much corals we have as some are big, some are small, some secretes lots of mucus (and thus increase the bioload more than the others), and some actually helps decrease the bioload as they have the tendency to help use up nutrients in the tank.

All I can say is that I have a TOTALLY stuffed tank and my tank is 150G with 70G sump. If I have to count each and every polyps in my tank, I'd have to say in the 100Ks. (that includes each cell that makes up of the 2 huge tree sponges in my tank.)

I was counting different species. I'm sure there are corals I haven't found yet

...and you're right, Jimmy....

it doesn't mean a whole lot.

...but it's an interesting factoid.

Once your tank is ready IMO you can put as many corals as you have space, just look at Sue truetts 180. I also stuff my tanks this way ensuring each coral has suffecient space to grow and is next to compatable corals.

HTH Ben

In my SPS 75 gal. I have 23 different spieces.

I couldnt count them in my 40 tall softie tank but as a ruff estimate atleast 45 different spieces.

I have about 90 different types of sps corals in a 75g. Most are between 2-4" but there are a few that are 6"+

I also have about 50 different types of corals in a 55g. Most are softies between 2-4"

And finally I have 5 sps colonies in a 30g that's plumbed with the 55g. All of the colonies are better than 8"

Most all the corals I have were started from 1" frags from local reefers.
