Aparently the strombus snails that i received from IPSF have reproduced in my 'fuge! After pulling out a heaping handfull of algae and bagging it to give to another reefer, i noticed a whole bunch of baby strombus snails clinging to the inside of the bag! They're very small, and seem to be at different stages of growth. The only thing i've put in the 'fuge besides the algae were the strombus, and apparently they've been having a good time...

Do strombus snails eat brown diatoms? I have brown algae on my sand. I was under the impression that strombus ate this kind of algae, so I bought some. They just ignore it. Did I just misunderstand or are my snail stupid?

Mine spread alot, and definatly eat diatom algea. I started with just a few maybe 3 and now have many in both my tanks, They die off but usually come back when there is enough algea again.

ArchAngel, i'd go buy a handfull of cucumbers for your sandbed, they do nice work! I'm not sure that the strombus will cruise into the sand, in my 'fuge i've only seen them on the sides.

Have you tried the Bunny snails from ISPF, apparently they make great fuge breeders too. If you had some mysids in there too you would have one hell of a canteen going.
