When i first got on this reef board one of my posts was how all of you could afford these tanks like these 220 gallons and etc. and a bunch of you said that you got yours cheapo from people that just wanted to get rid of them and etc.

I am wanting a tank like my petstores owner , he has a 220 fresh water tank, and i am wanting one , but i know they get up into the thousands of dollars, is their anywhere where any of you know where i can get one cheaper......

i have seen some on the net that people havce used as old breeding tanks, and only want a couple of hundred dollars, but they were already sold when i emailed the person, does anyone out there have a tank the size over 200 gallons????

I wish i did ... ... ... maybe working this summer i can find one cheap enough

i know katspaw built one for herself , she is good at buliding things

Well kirtis......

the best way is to find some obessesive compulsive person, you know the type they get intrested in something and dive in head first even though they know very little on the subject.

After a week or two they think they've become an expert and begin to try to do things way beyond their level of competence.

Whatever the subject of their intrest is takes up every waking minute of their time. They begin to throw away good money after bad because they dont research any of their purchases.

no matter what they get they are never satisfied because someone just came out with an x2 version of the exact same thing that is 10% better and they just have to have one.

usually they start with a small tank say 20 gallons. 2 weeks later they decide they are the REEFMASTER OF ALL TIME and trade up to a 55 gallon. Maybe a month goes by and all of a sudden they want a Gadzillion gallon tank.

The good news is most people like this dont have the patience or maturity to stick to anything very long and will quit as soon as they become obsessed with something else.

Just find someone like that and wait a while because a month from now he will be willing to sell you that 4,000 gallon tank CHEAP because he will suddenly have discovered the game of golf and will be wanting to get a set of ping irons to replace the arnold palmers he bought at walmart a week ago.

These types are always hard up for money to support their new habit/addiction

Usually the people who sell these big tanks for the fraction of the costs are people moving and people divorcing. I am not sure if they are divorcing because of the tank though.

Addiction what a harsh word. Addiction is when you are like thinking about something all the time and looking for people that can help you support your habit. You know just get you through with a little here till you get more money. Never really enough though, but you try anyway. Thinking that you need more of something you have plenty of. Addiction is when you are waiting at the opening of a store to get your fix. Waiting to try the newest way to get your...wow, sounds like reefing to me.

lets not even get into obsesive behaviour like maybe these chats hahahhaha...

well i dunno about 220 gallon tanks, but some notable hobbyist have started using their bathtubs.
Never mind the salt, they'll enjoy the change to freshwater. You'll have fish that look like big round balloons, but bigger is better, of course.

Kurtis, a 400 gallon tank might be quite easy to come by. But a 400 gallon skimmer capable of dealing with your daily feeding/chumming, thats when your moneys going to dissapear. And oh, erm lighting, bargin for that size, another $1000. And thats probably doing it on the cheap. I think a little more looking and a little less leaping might be in order.
