Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone had any expriance with the black back butterfly, i was thinking of picking up one for my tank but wasn't sure on their hardiness. Can a school be kept in an 80gal tank (3 or so of em?). If you have any info, tips/tricks to keeping them healthy let me know! thanks.

I think the black back is also known as a Pakistani butterfly, if it is, I had one years ago. It was a great fish, and I got it to eat flake food, but it loved to eat bloodworms as a treat. If it's not the same fish, then I have no idea if they're easy to keep. As far as schooling, I believe (not positive) that most butterflies will school if there are enough of them, but 3 in an 80 will soon outgrow your tank, as most butterflies will grow fairly large.

Schpike is a very hardy cool fish, and you can feed him xenia !!!

I would certainly make sure your specimen is eating something before you purchase, and don't put him with a lemonpeel angel, but so far that is the only thing that has put him off a bit.

He eats spirulina flake, loves homemade frozen food, takes brine, marine cuisine, etc. Doesn't do pellet food or nibbler foods. Just moved to my 72g and lives with a dwarf lionfish, a blackspot trigger, a pink skunk clown and a yelloweye tang.

He has a terrific personality, and was key in a recent tank move so we could see him more.
