I have the return from my canister filter (boo hiss) pointed up towards the surface at one end, and on the other i have a little maxi jet doing the same. Whenever i do a water change i allways try and take the water from the surface, so much so that i even get little venturi's going down the syphon. I used to have a real problem with surface scum, that actually looked more like precipitation, but now i have the pumps on the surface its allways crystal clear.
I dont have a skimmer on the tank, and as you can see there is a little patch of cyano down the front. I recently added some more fish, so surprisingly the patch has grown a little. But its starting to dissapear again. yippiee
