due to me moving pretty soon and my mom doesn't want to do the whole "tearing the walls down to put in 20amp wires" gig again, I'm gonna have to sell my beautiful 180 for something smaller and less energy use.
I was thinking a 60 hex. does anyone have a hex tank? I would like to hear about it

By all means STAY AWAY FROM 60 GALLON ALL GLASS HEX TANKS. I had two in succession fail on me. These tanks are very poorly designed. Each one split a seam within 4 months of being set up. All Glass knows that the failure rate on this design is very high. Why they keep making them is beyond me.

I have a 70 gallon Oceanic hex tank, which has been in operation since 1989. I have not had any problems with it. I can't speak for AGA hex tanks, though. You can see my tank at Doug's reef. The tank has a hole drilled in the center of the bottom, around which I built an overflow from PVC. The rock is supported by the overflow and the tank is open all around the perimeter. I like the effect I was able to create this way, but I am not sure that I would do it again because of the limitations imposed by the shape of the tank (and therefore the hood and stand).

Currently running 55 hex acrlyic tank 400 watt 10K metal halide with vho antinic, oak stand and custom built oak canopy, I keep mainly acros, 1 dersa clam and a frog spawn, open brian, a yellow leather. I really think these tanks are alot more appealing than standard designs. Just my personal preferance. Have had it up for about 1.5 years and I do have to say I would really like to do a larger tank soon, I will probally be forced to go with a convential tank next time because hex tanks with 100 plus gallons just take up too much floor area or they are too deep.

I have a 45 hex thats been up and running for over 2 years and not a problem out of it. Heard so many horror stories about hex tanks. From lighting, circulation, filtration. I have a Perfecto 45 and no leaks from it at all. Have it crammed full of liverock, and corals have grown like wildfire! Check it out if ya want to..first try at a reef for me. Cooder

I have a 45 gallon hex also f/o. Been set up about a year and a half. Back in May I had to move about a mile or two and had no problems moving it. (When I moved it, I left it sitting on its stand to lessen the chance of weakening it and causing a leak). I personally like the looks of a hex from a distance, but it does cause viewing distortions because it has so many sides. Some other things to think about: I also have a glass top and therefore am limited to what I can use as hang-ons. I have a hang on filter that takes up all the room and therefore I don't have room for a skimmer. (not a problem I guess if you have a sump, which I don't). It is also deep, approximately 25 or 26 inches. I do have compact flor. on it, 2-36 watt lamps, so you will be limited on lighting also. Good Luck.

I have a pentagon, just a hex but minus a side. I'm sure you've heard all about the surface area ratio before, it's tall with a small surface area for gas exchange so you'll probably need a sump + skimmer for proper exchange. Hex tanks can be lit easily too, a MH pendant would do nicely.
