I've just purchased a 20 gallon acryllic tank. I have nothing else yet. I'm not planning anything fancy, just some shrooms, leathers, feather duster worms, maybe a couple of Bangai Cardinals, etc.

I would appreciate any advice concerning lighting and filtration. My LFS was using the same model tank with a single 55 W PC(JPG I think), and a Prizm hang-on-the-back style protein skimmer. Do you think the same setup would work for me, or would you suggest something else?

I may add a refugium if I can work out the plumbing, but I'm kind of limited in what I can do with DIY projects because I live in an apartment.

IMO the Prizim skimmer is a great skimmer for your set up . I personally have on on a 30 long tank with a decnt bio-load on it. If i was you i would go with a better light arangement. Two (6-watt PC's would work good for leathers and mushrooms and the such.

the plumbing for the refugium should not be tough just an overflow box and some tubing or PVC piping. your LFS could help with the overflow and the required pump

I am running 110 watts of pc's on my 37 which is the same footprint as your tank but about twice as high (24 inches).

a 55 watt smartlight should be sufficent for shrooms and such but is really borderline for the leathers two smartlights would be better.

Marine depot has a 2 x 55 = 110 watt pc retofit kit that is basically plug and play for $109 reflector included if you have a canopy you may want to go this rte.

you can see this kit by clicking on the orange line in my signature as it is posted on my site.

Most people on this board dont like Prism skimmers although my LFS likes and uses them as well. I think a Bak-pak is a better skimmer for only a little more money and it is well worth it.

Most opinions here are for the remora c
