I want to unattach the whole stalk, not just clip the head.

Any ideas?

Trying to get rid of about 50 of them.

Thanks,
Brian

This might sound, harsh. And I am talking blue/purple mushrooms here, although I am finding the reds much the same. I had some blue/purples in areas that threatened (saw my mushrooms take out a colt..).

Just used a razor blade and cut them all away....chop chop right to the base. Grabbed the debris and of course it is growing mushrooms...got an eye on the area...

I've heard you should use the same methods you do for removing aiptasia (kalk injection, etc.). You could always send me your rock and I'll send you back a comparable one barren of any life, if you want. Or, you could always just turn the rock over until the mushrooms fell off or just cover it with something opaque to shield light and add some current so they would detach.

why don't you donate them to the HDHRF,

cutting them off underwater when they are expanded is much easier than out of water

But, if I cut them, won't they just regrow from the base?

That's what I want to avoid.

Dr. Reef-

Try aiming a powerhead at them. They don't like a lot of current and will drop off the rock to find another site.

I aimed a powerhead at a rock I had and placed a strwberry basket lined with a screen in the current behind the mushrooms to catch them as they let go. Otherwise they will settle else where in your tank.

You could always just send them to me! :) I'm not equipped with high tech lights so was thinking about getting some mushrooms anyway. :)

Seriously, can I just take a wire bristle brush, ruin the animal, then scrape the leftovers of the rock?

There has to be a good way to do it NOW not after days of having a power head on it.

Look, if you people could tell me how to send mushrooms, then send me shipping money, maybe you'd get some.

Meanwhile, I'll just continue to hack them off, then bristle brush the leftovers to hel.

thanks,
bt

To all of those who are looking for mushrooms: I have several solid red and green striped that I would love to give to a good home. If you are willing to pay shipping I'll send. Follow links in sig line to get a hold of me.

As for using a wire brush, what that will get you is several baby mushrooms all over your tank. Those things have the same regenerative capabilities as aptasia.

you can stick them in film cannisters, seal it up with tape in a ziplock baggy, put it in a videotape box you can get at the post office and shipping is only $3!!!
you reefers are my only hope to get some corals!
thanks

you put it in water. LFS on the mainland won't ship stuff to hawaii, and bringing it on a plane with me is extreamely difficult as of 9/11/01
