I was planning on getting a Aqua Media Turboflotor T1000 with Rio2100 pump for my 80 gallon tank and was wonder what you all think about it? I am also open to any other skimmer suggestion that you all have.
Zip, skimmer choices depend on how much money you want to spend, how much room you have for installation and whether or not you prefer a hangon, sump or stand alone model. The Aqua Medic Turboflotor 1000 is a good skimmer in the hangon version with the Aquabee pump, but I have heard and read that they have a problem with priming on the sump model and require a small powerhead as well as a main pump. I also don't recommend the Rio pump. I would invest in a good quality pump you'll have less problems in the future.
My skimmer sucks, but everything is still living. To be honest you don't even have to have a skimmer. I considered getting a Bullet 1, but I just don't want to spend $350 bucks on it. So I question is it worth the extra money? Do you need it to skim better?
I just installed the ets 600 for my 58g that i bought it used. just for three 3 days, i feel it perform great but the price must be considered. i consult with other reef keepers on this discussion before i got etss skimmer ( i think it cheap-ets 600+litle giant wd40+litle giant wd30+outflow box+20g sump for 250) . they prefer me euroreef skimmers. i think you should get cs6-3 for $359 at marine depot but i know another online store they sell for 329 or 339 plus free shipping. i can search for you. about the rio bump i recommend that do not...not...not buy it. i got rio 2500. just less than 1 year i had to replace the impeller and then its circuit went crazy. wheni pluged it in the outlet the breaker striped. i gave me alot of headache before i found out. hope it helps.
