I am adding a 100 gallon sump and a 100 gallon refugium to my basement. I plan on buying a sequence pump, but need to size it properly. I would like to run my skimmer (top fathom tf200), circulate water through my 100 gallon refugium (with gravity return to sump), and pump up to main tank (125 gallon) through two (2) 1" sea swirls. I would like to have 600 gph out of the sea swirls combined.

I have a few questions I need to answer before I can decide on a pump. I would like to get the pump as small as possible so I can be more efficient:
1. Should I just run the biggest pipe I can run from the pump to the tank to cut down on friction head (2 inch or so?)?
2. What pressure head do I add for the top fathom skimmer at 5 psi for 200-300gph.
3. How much energy is used when throttling back a pump with a gate valve?
4. Can I run 3 90deg fittings to the pump on the intake side from my sump? Will it still be getting the flow it needs to run properly? If not, I will need to re-drill my sump and find a larger bulkhead fitting for it.

Any advice from somebody that has experience with this type of problem would be greatly appreciated.
