Several things have really helped me!!!! 1st and most important, buy tank raised, 5th generation and further!!!! IT is the hardiest. #2 High salinity 1.0245 to 1.0255!! They love alkalinity and calcium. Mine do well in any temp and dont seem temp sensitive. I have reduced light from 2X400 to 2X175 and they are doing fine!!!

xenia do best in cooler waters and intense lighting. Xenia do not respond well to temperature spikes either

I agree on the lighting, disagree on the temp. My tank is at 82F constantly, and I have so much xenia that I am flushing a full kitchen glass every month or so. I have two different species.

When I got the first piece, it seemed thin and the polyps did not seem fuzzy. Now they are full and each arm on each polyp is definitely "furry." (the pinnuels are quite long) I gave some to a friend who has much less lighting than I do and after a month it is still alive but much smaller. The "fur" on the tentacles of the polyps (the pinnuels) is gone once again on the specimin his tank.

Anyone in the Knoxville want free xenia, bring a small, golfball size piece of liverock and I will trade you a similar size rock with several stalks on it!

I think ther really isn't a certain setup that is good for Xenia. My freind can't get rid of them fast enough. He has a 30 inch deep tank and grows them on the bottom with VHO lighting, uses tap water for top off and water changes so who knows
