Do you run return(s) via:

- bulk head in bottom of tank?
- bulk head in top of tank?
- no bulk heads and use SeaSwirl or similar wave maker?
- via bulk head hidden in overflow box?

How do you do it and what do you like/dislike about it?

I need to make a decision regarding my new 100G and would like some opinions.

I have my return line run from my sump to my chiller and then to the bulkhead in the bottom of my overflow box. My overflow is split into two sections. One wet and the other dry with just piping. From there it goes up top and down into two nozzles high up on both rear corners of my tank. I have mine that way because the guy at the LFS where I bought it told me to get it that way. I pretty much trust him, not that I know a whole lot. It seems pretty simple and contained which I like. It is a pretty clean looking setup which I like.

DSB,

Thanks for the info. I checked out a local, trusted fish store and sure enough TruVu and other tank manufacturers will add a 'dry channel' in the overflow for only a few dollars more. As you mentioned you can add a return in a wide overflow, or run your pipes/hose up the 'dry channel' then to a SeaSwirl or whatever and never see a hose or pipe. Sweet.

Well I have that AGA corner overflow which I really like. It's such a simple system to run and maintain. The return comes up over the overflow and flows back in to the main tank. It's really nice because it really agitates the top of the water and causes a lot of flow into the tank. They do make some attachments for it so you can hook up a spray bar but I haven't looked into that yet.
