I keep my refugium on a 12 hrs light each day. I do this mainly because there are other animals in my tank that are more comfortable out at night.
I would not put much stock into the article by Kent Marine. One glaring false fact in this article is that it said Caulerpa sp. reproduce sexually with 24 hr light. This is the reason they do not recommend 24 hr light. This is full of baloney. There are too many reefer with 24 hr light and have no problem with algae goes sexual.
IMO, Kent Marine just wants to jump into the Miracle Mud bandwagon. That is all there is to it.
BTW it is not a study. It is just an article promoting their brand of ‘Miracle Mud’ By a so call ‘marine scientist’. I use a lot of Kent products, and have no problem with them. I just feel that this article is so stupid. That is all

I run a 27 watt PC quad bulb, 6700 K in a Lights of America fixture. I would have gotten the 65 watt LOA fixture but couldn't find it. This is over the middle of a 20 gal long, my Caulerpa prolifera and DSB are in the middle section of the sump. I'm running it 22/2 but will slowly be cutting it back to 12 opposite the main tank which is how I ran it for over a year.

LOA = Lights of America
I illumintae my sump/refugium, as esmithii does with a LOA 65 watt fixture from HD.
Less than $30

I light my refugium 12 hours, reverse daylight with a 400 watt 10,000k metal halide. i've had FANTASTIC results for over 1 year, never have i had any trouble with sexual reproduction.

it may work for some, but i think 24/7 refugium lighting is balogna.

My Ecosystem refugium came with a Jali 13 watt light. I boosted it to 64 watt PC(2X32 W). I've got 3 kinds of Caulerpa growing in it.
24/7 works well for me.
