Thanks guys.

I finally got the Aqua JR and the Calcium reactor to work but a couple of the plastic screws on top of the CR chamber popped and when I came home I found about five gallons of water on my floor and on the way to the dowstairs apartment.
It's a real pain in the butt when everything goes wrong. First loosing all the fish and now this.
what's next ?
I'm sick and tired of all this BS and ready to throw the towel.

Used Stuff Sucks

It's better to spend a little more $$$ and get new things.
The Calcium Reactor had a strss crack, bad screws. Th UV light had a burned bulb and now I can;t even reach the person who sold it to me.
I guess we learn from our mistakes.

Thanks.

Ahhh man, i'm sure you wouldn't have had those issues with me :usa1: . But live and learn, we all go through this. I always keep a group of people who i can trust, but not always try to save money.

Just take a step back and relax. The thing i have learned about this hobby is that when things are going right, it's a stress reliever, but when things go wrong, it's enough to give you an anxiety attack.

Good luck!

I forgot to ask but how did it explode? Could it be that there was too much co2 pumped in and not enough water coming out therefore pressurising the reactor?

Alfredo IMO you should use the KISS method. The more gadgets you use, the more can go wrong (also harder to diagnose problems)

Oh man I feel your pain. You're right.. sometimes it is better to get things new. Warranty, nice packaging, instructions, etc. I've had some real nightmares with used equipment but at the same time I've had some trmendous luck as well. Its a trade off but u hang in there buddy! The reward is not far!

When I see the title worded with "SICK", I almost feel how badly you feel right now. Even though I am an animal lover, I do think one thyself is more important afterall. Take a nap in the hobby and relax for a while and make a big come back when you are ready. Take a break(hmm not the equipment though:spin: ) and see if that relieve your anxiety.

Wish you the best.

Alfred, I know exactly how you feel. So many times I wanted to quit, but now I am so happy I didn't. Thanks to the MR family my tank(to me anyways) looks absolutely gorgeous. By the way, I don't have a ton of gadgets on my tank either. Pumps, heaters, thermostat, skimmer, lights. Simple, simple, simple. Less to worry about. I am going to install ATO & AD, but that is it.
Hang in don't give up just yet. Like WIngo said take a break, but do not give up.

I'm sorry to see the problems you are having. Sometimes used equipment works out, and sometimes it doesn't. This is just the way things unfortunately fell for you.
I agree with Rich 100%. You have to keep it simple. Bells and whistles are all smoke and mirrors.
I remember how close I was to launching a rock through my glass when I found out I had AEFW. I can't begin to tell you how close I was to going fish only or just getting out. It's very tempting to quit. Especially when you consider how much money you will save or put towards something else. This hobby is expensive, time consuming and even though most hobbyists try to flower up how easy the hobby is... in all actuality it is very difficult.
I'm not telling you if you should stay or go or take a break from it, but you have to be realistic with yourself and factor in the pros and the cons of the hobby.
Whatever you decide to do, I hope you are happy with your choice. I'm sorry for you problems and losses. Do what's best for you.

Support

It's good to feel everyone's support. Very encouraging.
I've tried to keep it simple by only adding what I really need.
I travel a lot that's why I want a Calcium Reactor so I don't have to dose.
The UV Unit I added when I lost my fish to keep harmful bacteria out of my tank. Also I felt the necesity of having a controller for this things to run under programing and everyone recomended the Aqua JR.
I have a top off unit so I can go for a weekend without worrying about water levels. That way I just have to have someone come and feed my fish.
The rest is the normal thimgs. Skimmer, lights, etc.

Is that too much?

THANKS FOR THE ADVISE GUYS

Well, the controller is always a help. Not too sure how I feel about UV, but that is fairly simple. I would advise ATO if you were retired and home all the time.
I would have never advised a calcium reactor. If you look through the threads, people are constantly having trouble with them. I'd be willing to bet that it wasn't a bad buy, but it was improperly set up. This day and age and all the advances, I seriously don't understand why anyone would tell you to get a Ca reactor, with it's solenoids, compressed gas bottles, difficulty of adjustment, media that turns to mush, not to mention the cost when you can set up any 2 part formula on a doser which you can get for under $200 and is practically set and forget. Most of us have sold off our reactors and switched to 2 part and dosers.
You travel a lot. Are you sure this hobby is for you? I'm not judging, just asking.

Sorry to hear what happened and hope that you dont throw in the towel. People here are the best when it comes to advise and help. I know how you feel as I was in your situation as you last week.... 3 weeks ago I had the Rockslide all my nice colonies were crush into frags and some died.. the week after I bought a new skimmer then didn't put the clamp but good thing I was home but my basement is fill with water... Then last week I saw my Acro turning green at the base and starting to bleech .. checked all my parameters and even dip my coral but all is good and to find out the my pump on my CR gave up on me !.... My advice is when stress out call your friends and talk it over...Im glad I didn't throw the towel but instead correct my mistakes and bought me a LITERMETER III lol.... Good luck !!!!
