I have discovered two, count'em, two - hairy-legged crabs in my tank. They are quickly eating my coraline algae. How do I get them out? All my LR is turning white! I've seen them eat the mysis shrimp I feed the tank with and all my peppermint shrimp mysteriously disappeared prior to me finding these guys. Can I set a trap?

Try the Coke bottle trap. That usually works for crabs.
If you do a search for {mantis crab bottle trap} I bet you can find a post with a link to site with plans. It's easy as heck to build, and cheap.
Good luck.

I bought a cheap vase from the dollar store that had a wide bottom, got skinny then a wide mouth. I put a peice of shrimp in it and tilted it on my LR overnight. The next morning I had a huge mother sitting pretty inside - trapped. Worked like a charm in one night!

HOW DO I CATCH CRABS?

maybe you could ask danmhippo.
Ugh..... I don't, usually they come to me. I never spend much time trying to catch'em.........

Oh, you mean the 8 legged one's? Oh, just grab them by their lower abdomen with lightening precision and watch out for their claws. I find it's easier to grab their last pair of legs at the same time to immobilize them.

(What, not that either? :? )

From the subject line, you could post a lot of obscene replies... Anyway, I am reminded of a story (Heard on Comedy Central a few years back):

A guy goes to a hooker who charges him $10, and later finds out he has crabs. Angry, he goes back to the hooker and says, "Hey! You gave me crabs!", to which she replied, "What did you expect for $10? Lobster???"

a man goes to his doctor, who says:

'i've got good news, and bad news'

'what's the good news?'

'all your crabs are gone!'

'what's the bad news?'

'we have no idea what killed 'em!'

Ahh Danm, both crabs have eight legs (that would be in tank, and umm, how can I keep this one rated "G", well, hmmmmmmmmm, the ones you catch by playing with questionable relationships. Pretty good Chucker?

As far as the real one's (in the tank) M/O places have a variety of traps that work well, and are relatively cheap. The only trick is to keep the damn fish from going in for a morsel-usually a nightime affair. (I didn't just use that word did I? oh heck, I did, now this threads goin south!)

Ahhh, alas.... too late for the old crab gag. Strange that the only thing to tempt most sumpers these days is the opertunity for chep inuendo. Oh well, back to the depths for more sleeze.
