copepod predators.............

besides the obvious answer of mandarians what other fish naturally have a prefrence for pods ?

I recently (7 weeks) introduced a dottyback to my tank and its seems as if I have had a drastic reduction in pods.

the dotty eats flake and at least 6 different types of frozen regularly but I think he is definately thinning out my pods.

Hawkfish. And I believe wrasses do as well. Don't know anything about dottybacks though.

The dubious dottyback...IMO you will be lucky if it eats only pods. I had the pitbull of dottybacks at one time, he had fangs. His species was in a Scott Michaels article that I can't place my hands on right now. Suitably named Sid Vicious.

I made a BIG mistake adding a purple dottyback to my 38 gal which had a mandarin. I figured since the dotty was captive bred, it's needs would be fulfilled by prepared foods. That beast was a pig. It harrassed my mandarin so she would have a hard time feeding off the rocks. Direct competion for food maybe? Luckily my skills at angling were able to remove the dottyback.

The dottyback is silverish-grey on bottom with an even blue half-way up its body and a bright yellow strip all across his top. I dont know the scientific name, but I paid good money to have my LFS order this specific type dottyback.

I know dotty's can only be kept one to a tank and I was looking for a specific color scheme. He doesnt really bother any of the soft leathers or polyups or sponges but I think he definantely eats pods.

What seems odd is this dotty will eat any food I put in the tank frozen flake or otherwise so I cant understand why he's such a pod hog.

I would like to get a mandarin in my large tank when I get it up and running so I dont want anything that will compete with him.

I have a nano-reef that I just set up so he will have to go there when the transfer takes place.

My jawfish will snag pods that venture too close to their burrow, although I'm not sure that they actively hunt them. Probably more of an opportunistic meal. Six line wrasses will eat them like crazy.

my blennie is a total pig. he'll eat anything, most certainly including every copepod he spots. i was having all sorts of system problems until i added my refugium, most likely due to a total desimation of my microfauna. now i'm comfortable with his eating habits know a large store of them are still able to thrive in my system.

Scooter Blennys will eat em, but i suppose being a Dragonet its kinda expected.
