Before I switched to MH I kept my yellow nder 4-96W pcs with no problem. It did very well and was one of the few corals that took awhile to adjust to the stronger MHs.

I've just had mine under MH so I don't know. I do know that they stay yellow under MH and grow very well.

Here is a recent pic of mine:
left_side_5-18-02.jpg

It has grown from about 4" square to it's current size (about 9" wide at the bottom to 12" wide at the top and about 18" long)
over about a 2 year period. I've never fragged it in that time but I'm considering fragging it sometime soon.

 Wow, that is a beautiful tank! In that picture your toadstool leather looks the same color as mine, kind of a golden brown. My yellow leather was very yellow (just shy of lemon) when I bought it. I have seen bright yellow toadstool leathers in the Solomon Islands so I know they exist in nature.

Jadavis01,

The leather is the same color as the day I got it. I may have seen a few a little brighter, but it is definetly yellow not brown.

Rover,

That's a swallowtail angelfish. They eat zooplankton and come from a little deeper water (100' or so) and are supposed to be reef safe. So far mine has been a model citizen with LPS and clams scattered throughout the tank and a smattering of softies as well.

I found my leather kept it's color well, but oh my! A fussy Fussy coral!

Just moody, and difficult, worse than an SPS IMO.

Lovely thought,

Well I have mine in a 75 gal with two 96 watt Pc and it looks ok. Just that the polyp extension isn't very good. I am however about to add 2 more 96 watt PC to the tank. I also have a 56 gal with 2 175 watt MH so I could move it to thatb tank if it would do better under the Mh than the PC.
So the ? is what sould I do?

Thank you Mark

This is a pic of my yellow leather that has grow under 250 watt Iwasakis for about a year and a half. The pic is just with the VHOs on. It will be moved to a 55 gal lighted with just VHOs. I'll post another pic down the road if the color changes.

It probably would do very nicely under the MH bulbs. My S. elegans is about 8" under a 250 watt 6500K MH bulb and just soaks up the light.

I haven't heard of them really changing colour, so you are probably alright. Unlike SPS's which can be down right rediculous!

Hey, don't worry over something that hasn't happend. I would be concered with polyp extension and that stuff.

I found the yellow fuji leather, and I got a home grown one, just plain fussy. Something would touch it and it would be closed up for a few days.

In my 20 g tank with *lots* of light, I found it like semi shade, and about 8 inches from the MH. Now I still have 2 actinic VHO's and 1 NO 50-50 bulb. So it had plenty of light, just didn't want it that bright - for me it was more like a mushroom.

HIH,

My yellow fiji is about 20" from a 1000w MH HQI 10k bulb and it's loving it. It does close and open through out the day. Mine is even splitting off babies.
