I was just there last week. On of the best facilities I have ever visited! The dragons looked great and all the corals were healthy. I 'specially liked the outdoor reef tank. Awsome!

I can't wait to visit this exhibit this next summer! I will be in Hawaii for 2 weeks in Aug!. Going to go a little diving, some specimen collection (contacted DAR and they gave me the regs) and I am eagerly awaiting the Aquarium visit!

Charles,
Can you please tell me the ID of this magnificant SPS ? I think it is gloriouis!!! I will be there in February 2003 again to see my buddy. Is it possible to meet the man behind all this creativity ? The green SPS that resides outside using NSL.

Charles,
Unbelievable tank, I bet the energy bill is too.<G> Is the tank fiberglass? It seems it would be easier to use a small swimming pool for a tank.
Holy hell, I must say the corals in the outdoor tank have grown shockingly fast since I was there in 98', especially the Acropora sp. on the far right.
Once again, outstanding work.

That is an amazing tank.

Not to brag, but I will be in Waikiki on 11/13-11/17, so I will get some up close and personal pictures :) If anyone wants a picture of anything in particular, let me know and I will try to take it.

BTW, Mr. Delbeek, if you happen to check this thread again I would LOVE to have you autograph my copies of D&S 1 & 2 (sound of me sucking up)

Yikes good thing I happened to be cruising by tonight ... anyway to the questions:

Thanks Righty! Are you the person who left the "Tell it to the Director" questionaire with the comment "best live coral tank I have ever seen"?? lol

Call me at the aquarium when you arrive and if I am around I can show you around and answer any questions you may have.

peterH .. that green one outside is the same as the green one you can see behind the clam in the indoor tank pic you have ... that is A. latestella. It actually came from a table but it always grows busy like that ... I have some nubbins in really strong flow in the indoor tank so I will see if they grow into tables or not. :)

Thanks Leland! Yeah that one A. youngi sure has grown eh? Not bad for a coral that is "dying" by growing in water under 80 oF eh? ;)

No problem Brian, call the aquarium when you get to Hawaii and we can set up a day and time for you to come by. 923-9741 ext. 0

Yep, that was me!

Again, nice work! If my wife has to go out to the island for work again, I want a tour too!

Hi JCD,

I was wondering if you know if Prof. Sanjay Joshi has done any tests with the Sunmaster MH bulbs and also do you know which company makes them? I did a google search but all I came up with was a bunch of hydroponic stores. Thanks.

Cheers,

To the best of my knowledge he will be testing them soon. I suggest you post your question to him directly. He can be reached on the Advanced Aquarist feature article discussion board which is a subset of this board (scroll down the forum bulletin board index listing and you will see it).

Yes, hydroponics stores are where you can currently buy these bulbs.

Aloha!

Awesome exhibit. Awesome place. I've only been reefing for about a year, but things like the Waikiki Aquarium are making me seriously consider changing my major from Digital Arts to Biology. BTW, concerning Digital Arts and your website... I've created virtual tours. I'll do yours for half of whatever you pay your developer. SOH Virtual Tour. I'd do anything to work there. I can be your do-boy and clean the glass four times a week for free. You can call me "mini-me". I can't believe I was on Oahu surfing just a year ago and had no idea about the aqurium. Kind of a bummer. If I scored a job there I don't think I could ask life for more.
