Hi all I have had this skimmer (Lifereef venturi VS-24 powered by part of an an ampmaster 3000) running for ~4 weeks now, Very little bioload, mainly cured rock and small detritivore kits. However I did have a small xenia colony die and there has been an algae explosion but yet no skimmate. If I adjust the gate valve on the output to cause the foam to rise in the neck all I get is essentially clear, odorless liquid. I'm about to add some fish is there anything I can do? Does it sound like its ok and there's just not enough bioload or to I have to tweak it?

Thanks

I have had one of these skimmers for about 6 months now. When I ordered it I chose the Mag9 pump. I run the pump wide open and then adjust the water height to about an inch below the riser neck. When I first began adjusting, I had the same condition you do. I lowered the water lever to prevent the wet, clear foam from collecting and just let it run.

I don't know how much flow you have, but my Mag9 wide open seems about right. My bio load is a bit heavier than yours, but not that much. I do know this skimmer is quick to respond to pollution in your tank. Its amazing how much green muck it produces when it needs to. I honestly believe that when your bio load increases, you will see your skimmer doing it's job very well.

Regards
