I have a Custom Sea Life chiller with dual controller on order. As I understand it, the dual controller will have an outlet into which I will plug my heaters (in addition to the outlet for the chiller). I will be using 2 (or 3) 350watt Pro-Heat titainium heaters. I have been told that the thermostat on these heaters should be turned all the way up because the power to the heaters will be controlled by the CSL controller.

Since the thermostats on each of the heaters will be rendered useless, can I remove them? Specifically, can I cut the thermostats off of each of the heaters, then wire the heaters together and directly to a standard receptacle plug? I would like to do this to eliminate the extra connections (power strips, etc.) between the heater and the CSL controller, and to get rid of the no-longer needed thermostats.

I am pretty sure if you can do it. However, I have the same heater and I choose to leave the thermostate in and set it at 84F. I am doing this as a fail-safe just in case the CSL dual controller failed on me. (besides, I am too lazy to do the rewiring........)

My cousin did that with an old heater. He used the thermostat to control the fans in his hood. I'd say it could be done.

That Fish Place sells titanium heaters that have no thermostats. They are designed to be used with a separate controller. It is made by Jalli. I use one with my Medusa controller and it works well. HTH
