I know this is one of those age old questions but I'll ask it anyways. My uncle is setting up a 125 long reef ready AGA tank. His plans for now is to go ahead and make it a full reef of mostly softies and LPS. He will be using my old lighting setup which is a power compact fixture w/ four 96 watt bulbs. I think he is going to do a deep sand bed and house about 130 to 150 lbs of live rock. Now that I've got all that out of the way.. I was try to decide on an appropriate skimmer for him to use. It will have to be an in sump model and be fairly easy to use, adjust, and clean. I was looking at the Burmuda skimmers and was wondering if anyone on this board has had any experience with them. I know that asking about skimmers can be like opening a can of worms sometimes! :lol_large

lmao,
Allan for an easy to use skimmer I'd recommend the DAS I have, the ex-2.
There's not much to set on it and it's done a good job for me. They have come down in cost, now I think they are great for the money.

a new ex-2 is 399 from petorama.net

as for powerheads, don't mess around just get tunze's.
or if you want to run a closed loop use some wavy sea's or sea swirls.

Drunktank, could you post some info (your personal opinion and comparasions) and pics if possible. I hear a lot about Bermuda Aquatics but I don't get how this is different from a downdraft skimmer. I'll have to do a little research. you could post on the skimmer thread so we don't go off topic here :)

Allan, for what your uncle whats to do with his reef, the DAS ex-2 is a good choice.

Very good advice. I am just so curoius about the Burmuda skimmers. I guess it would be wrong for me to use him as a guniea pig right? After all he is the one that is going to have to deal with it!

The EX performs better because they don't have to deal with the pressure of being submerged. The EX DAS pumps pulled around 10LPM when running where my old DAS BX-3 did 5LMP. The EX also has a better design to adjust the water level.
