I have a 72gallon bf still cycling. I would like to put 2-3 tangs if possible. What species of tang would be recommed for them to get along with each other ? any suggestion for visual appeal also?

You could keep a yellow, kole, purple, chevron, tomini, atlantic blue, scopas, or convict in there and they would be happy. But I would only recommend 1 in a 72g.

I hace 1 scopas in a 72. It's would be a bit crowded with anymore.
Not to mention the mess from feeding more than 1.

Dan is right with the recommendations and one tang only.
But he is mistaken on the Atlantic Blue Tank. This fish grows as big as a plate. I know!.

FWIW

I have had a yellow tang in my 72 bow for over 2 yrs. I personally don't find this outrageous but I would never dream of putting another tang in my tank or any other big fish for that matter. He has done quite well but in hindsight I would have waited for a bigger tank ie 6 foot minimum. I have 4 fish (ocellaris clown, banggai, flamehawk and the yellow) in the 72 and although I'd love more , deep down I think that's probably enough. I don't have a sump mind you. Do you? Mine can't be drilled so I'm curious about other peoples' 72 bow set ups.

Way to go GT! Better advice than usual! This is what people are talking about... instead of load of crap comments. Some people are just looking for that one person to say no problem even thoughs dozens are saying it's not a good idea. Pointing them to the other threads at least give people a chance to make up their own minds and get some more info. I even read about you being the damsel police :D and advising against the Regal in a 29. Good job dude.

I've had a yellow tang for about 3 years in my 72g. No problems but he was introduced at about the size of a quarter and is now about 4". I'd blanket some of the previous recomendations of only one tang in your tank. Whatever your selection start out with a small tang. Mine has acclimated to the tank fine - no butting against the glass or swimming back and forth aimlessly.

thanks for all replies. I guess I have to go with my favorite one tang. (Blue) I just have started setup 2 weeks ago. got 90 lb fuji, still curing process. I have a 72 oceanic RR w/ oceanic stand. my sump is a 29gallon w/ 5galllon tank as prefilter. 29 gallon is exact fit for oceanic stand. I'm using PC only 96 watt X 4 under oceanic canopy.

If you mean Pacific Blue (hippo, Blue, regal) They get about a foot long and are an open water tang and are not one of the easier ones to keep especialy for people new to the hobby. Just though I would warn you. But it's your tank and your choice.

Was the tang you have yellow as a juvenile? I have seen several adult atl blues and haven't seen one longer then 7" or 8". A little longer than the shortest common adult tang a Tomini at around 6". They state in nature they reach 9". How long is yours? Of course fish are like anything else, and their size may vary some especialy in larger fish. Maybe you got the basketball player. :D
