I would boil or bake the rock for about 20 minutes....then use it as baserock.

I had some dead fiji and tonga branch rock. I just rinsed it real good in the shower and put it in my tank. It will eventually become alive and get coraline growth anyway. I cant see throwing it away, as long as you have a lot of other live rock the stuff will spread onto the dead rock in no time at all. Florida gulf rock is rock they throw in the ocean for a certain amount of time to get the good stuff to grow and then it is harvested and sold. It just takes time, i put my stuff in the back where i can only see it if you want to. Thant way there i can see the progress of the stuff growing. Good luck :)

If the rock was in a copper treated FOWLR, it will still have the copper inside it and will leach into your new tank. Do not reuse this rock if you are planning on having invertabrates in your new set-up.

Better safe then sorry. I would not use the rock if you dosed copper. 10 pounds of baserock is pretty easy to replace.
