I've got a year old tang with reddish spots on his sides; he's had these on and off, and I can't find a reason, other than we've not been consistent on the brand of dried seaweed for him. I've read that the reddish areas are something like bruises, where blood is near the skin surface, and it's usually due to lack of nutrition. What should I really be feeding this guy? I usually feed him Seaweed Selects or Petsmart's equivalent brand, and feed every 1-2 days, depending on when the seaweed is gone. Is there something I should soak this seaweed in first to help his health? I have a Coral Beauty angel that eats the seaweed as well, and is in perfect/healthy condition, and all other tank inhabitants are fine.

Thanks in advance for any responses,

My yellow tang had the red spots as well. I figued he was scrathed up searching for food in the live rock. Provide plenty off the seaweed as you are. I soak mine in zoe, zoecon & vit C from Kent, that way it provides vitamins. The yellow spots went away after about 2 weeks of soaking the nori.

I usually feed my yellow tang seaweed selects soaked in vitachem, formula 2 flakes, and frozen formula 2. I leave a strip of seaweed up for grazing, feed flakes in the morning, and feed frozen in the evening.

Thanks guys, I'll try soaking. I happen to have some Zoe at home, but wasn't sure what to use it for (came with some used equipment I bought heh).
