I am considering purchasing a Dussumieri Tang Acanthurus dussumieri. Does anyone have any experiences with this tang? I have searched and can not find hardily any captive info on them.
I had a brief period where I kept one before I gave it away. From my experience, I can tell you that healthy specimens are very hardy and brash. They can be very territorial towards other acanthurids. Eats just about anything introduced, and spends most of its day swimming or grazing the rock.
It should be noted this species gets extremely large. I wouldn't advise one for a 105 gallon aquarium. Only full grown male specimens display the incredible colors that I'm guessing you've seen pics of. Smaller specimens - especially females - while beautiful, aren't as colorful. If you want one, prepare to give it up within a year or two when it outgrows your tank.
